  1. Background

Aspiration 6 of the African Union’s Agenda 2063 as well as UN SDGs, explicitly call for an Africa whose development is people-centered, relying on the potential offered by African people, especially women and youth. Cameroon suffers from a severe lack of adequate leadership. This is seen in poor governance and a significant decline in democratic norms, basic human rights and individual liberties. Any deliberate attempt has never been made, to identify and nurture young leaders to respond to the realities of a multicultural and bilingual Cameroon.

Like John C. Maxwell says: “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way and shows the way”. Leaders are highly motivated change-makers and thinkers who propose creative ideas, push for social progress, and foster human flourishing. To continually address the issue of poor leadership in African countries like Cameroon, it is paramount to bring effective solutions to fundamental issues such as the erosion of democratic standards, global ethics, and individual liberties while creating free and forging systems. That is why young leaders have to be encouraged and their capacities strengthened to respond to the realities of a multicultural and emerging Cameroon.

In this context, the Denis and Lenora Foretia Foundation through its think tank, The Nkafu Policy Institute is organizing the 2024 edition of its Emerging Leaders Program which aims in exposing Cameroonian young leaders to global moral stance, diverse policies and public services. This batch of emerging leaders will be equipped with skills to create a vision, inspire others to follow it thereby creating unity and purpose which will bring people together and create a better future for Cameroon and the world at large.
